KEMBLE 2 Asterism

Kemble 2 Asterism in Draco

The Kemble 2 asterism is located in the constellation Draco and resembles a miniature W-shaped Cassiopeia constellation. There are six relatively bright stars listed here in order of decreasing magnitude:

  • HD 172922, V 6.79, K2
  • HD 172783, V 7.37, K0
  • HD 172611, V 7.49, K0
  • BD+72 853, V 8.34, K2
  • HD 173127, V 8.55, G5
  • BD+72 854, V 8.72, K5

This field of stars shown below has few mentions in the literature. A few paragraphs can be found in Reference 1, and a photo in Reference 2 below:

Collinder 399 Asterism

Collinder 399 Asterism in the Constellation Vulpecula

There are lots of bright stars in the Collinder 399 asterism and I labelled 31 of them in the next section. Many years ago this group of stars was thought to be a cluster, however, by 1998 it was shown "by using proper motions and parallaxes from the Hipparcos and ACT catalogues" that it was not a cluster. Quote is from the paper "The nature of some doubtful open clusters as revealed by Hipparcos", H. Baumgardt, Astronomy and Astrophysics, 340, 402-414 (1998).
