Supernova SN 2025vzq in NGC 7606

Celestron Origin Image

On September 24, 2025 my Celestron Origin captured a 1.27° x 0.85° star field centred on the star TYC 5822-0273-1 in the constellation Aquarius. This field includes the constellation star Psi2 Aquarii and the spiral galaxy NGC 7606. Unknown to me at the time was the discovery of supernova SN 2025vzq in NGC 7606 less than a month earlier on August 28, 2025. Since the peak visual magnitude range of the supernova was between 15 and 17.3, Origin should have captured the event, even with only a 20-minute integration time.

In this markup image, a few stars are labeled in white, including the star Psi2 Aquarii with the constellation lines (dashed). The galaxy NGC 7606 has blue labels and the supernova SN 2025vzq in red. Two nearby stars with visual magnitudes similar to the supernova's peak range are given: 14.56 and 17.50.
