I am very fortunate to be living on the shores of the Minas Basin, an inland section of the Bay of Fundy. My sheep farm is located in Kempt Shore near the mouth of the Avon River which empties into the Basin. The Bay of Fundy is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of North America because of its high tides. In fact, the highest tides in the world were recorded at Burntcoat Head on the map above (Guinness World Records, 1975). Twice each day, the Sun and the Moon force about 160 billion tonnes of seawater in and out of the Bay of Fundy. From my house, I can hear the tide coming in, especially at night. In the next sections (currently under construction) you can see how our amazing shoreline geology is shaped by the tides, and to a lesser degree, the change in seasons.
